vegan and the longer way of life.

have you been bombarded by the facts that people who have been on vegetarian dies all there life are living longer? i know i have, and not only because of where i work, because there are many of those kinds of high minded people. i hear it on the news. read it on any web site out there on eating healthy to lay off the meat.

i know i for one could not. my body has needs such i have to have red meat (preferably beef) once a week. so i guess that means that i will die young and of an heart attack, at least that is what medical science says. but the more i read on things like this and on vegan eating habits i do not believe that is the case.

for a vegan they have to watch every thing they eat, to make sure no animals are harmed in the processing of the food. so not only do they not get the greasy, fatty foods the rest of us do, but in many cases i bet they have to prepare all there own food because there is no fast and pre-made food for them to follow there vegan diet. making there food more pure, ie. less preservatives.

then you must also take into account the kinds of people that would take on this kind of diet. i would be willing to bet most are some kind of activist. (i know i have never met any one that was a vegetarian that did not have something else they were out spoken about.) i do not see any activists sitting on there butts watching tv and yelling at the tv. they, activists, tend not not sit they tend to get up and do something about it. they are motivated people that chase there goals.

so medical science is telling every one that they need to eat healthy, well the vegans have that down, they watch every thing they eat and tend to be educated on what they need to eat to live that life style. medical science tell us we need to get up and move around, most people would argue they do, but getting in a car and going across town is not the same as getting up and walking around the block, or walking down to the store. well the vegans are doing this too, they are activist so they get out and do something about there goals/beliefs making there lives a go go go kind of life style.

so i guess in that case we all need to go out and become vegans and activist. i say NO, we do not need to believe the same things nether do we need to force others to our beliefs. what we need to do is learn what is good for our body's and do it. this includes what we need to do (the dreaded word 'exercise') and what to eat (the other dreaded word 'diet'). now exercise is nothing more than going for a walk once ever other day,and trying to go just one extra mile while out there. and diet is nothing more than knowing what is bad for you and taking time and responsibility to say no every few times you are temped.

admittedly if you do it every time it is not as hard but you want to know a trick i have learned. work on one thing at a time. for 3 to 4 week try as best you can not to eat that large desert, eat half of it. try cooking for your self (removing all those extra preservative) even if your cooking is nothing more than a hamburger, a baked potato and some veggie to round out your diet. cooking for one self is one of the easy things you can do to make sure you know what is in your diet.

so in closing it is not whether you eat meat or not that can give you a long life it is how you treat your body and take care of it. just by trying one change in your life, not eating tell you are full, eating tell you are almost full, that can start you on your way to a more healthy life. so get out there and start the first step.
