the Misplaced Vote

this year seems to me to be a crazy year for the election. i know the last one was not this bad, but i do know that the 2000 was. it seems to me that every one gets there righteous conviction that one person is correct, and the fight begins. that is how i have always seen politics, righteous conviction that the one view is the only correct one. that is how many feel about gun control, global warming, and saving the environment. all good causes in there right, but all with great reasons not to react so violently as some want to.

sometimes i think that the issues the politicians harp on are the things they want the people to see. they speak out on the issues that the people want to hear and the things they want to hear. the few select things they they agree with the majority of the public on so they can try to appeal to the most people then hide what things they want to change. for some reason the thought of Hitler comes to my mind, a political leader that was chosen by the people because of his promises. even tho he was a deplorable man he was a great politician. he promised things that would not only make many people happy, but also what would further his plans.

in the end that is more of what we have to worry about this election, not the issues but what kinds of changes this person we put into office will do. by thinking this way it makes it about the issues, but also about the person and there beliefs. how can those values and beliefs will influence our lives and our future. in the end that is not what this election will be about, it will be a popularity contest who like who the most.

in the last few elections we have become complacent on what to believe and what to say. it seems that if it was not part of law we would never get one person out of office because most people do not see the harm in keeping things as they are. but that always reminds me of an old saying that i have been told sense i was a child;
"Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." see
those few words carry so much meaning it is scary. in a time in which we elect our officials a statement like that applied to politics means we must always be vigilant. always looking, always watching, always going over every decision with a fine tooth comb, making sure that what this official is doing is what we believe is correct. if not then we must make a change and no longer let that official continue on.

in this time such a thing is hard to do, with all the media taking a side and skew the story telling us what they think is correct. to discover really what is going on we must study, but who has time in our busy lives, and that is the price we pay for putting our selves above the whole. in that i guess we are lost, we have reached a point where majority rule is no longer important. the minority that screams the loudest, the small group of people that have the biggest feeling of righteous justification that can yell the most that there view is all important will win.

and i guess in the end, that will be our end.

"the looking glass wars" review

what a interesting spin off of the 'Alice in Wonderland' stories. this book take the idea that 'Alice in Wonderland' is a story that was written off of a little girl's past. where she looses all control in here life and ends up assuming a new life in the end her friends come through to pull her back to the world she belongs to. to fight the nightmare that is Redd.

the world of wonder land is a place where all the dreams and imagination of the multverse come from. this is the kind of place where imagination rules the world, and not just figuratively but literally. in wonderland the power to think up things and want things to happen will simply make them be.

so of course in this world the most powerful person is going to be the most imaginative. she is the Genevieve, the queen of harts, and Alice's mother. through some strange and unfortunate circumstances Redd, Alice's aunt attacks wanting the throne of wonderland for her self. because of some altercations in Redd's and the Genevieve's pasts, Redd got banished to mount isolation in the chess board desert.

for all of these years Redd's anger and hate has been building. for this one moment to kill her sister and take the throne. Alice only escapes with the help of her mother moments before she is killed and the Hatter Madigan that got her to the pool of tears where she escaped into our world.

while she was a child she inspired the story of 'Alice in wonderland' we all know, and after she had given up all hope she was found by the Hatter at last, saved once again, and taken back to wonder land. where she still had the insurmountable task of discovering all she had forgotten from her past. all the while she is chased by her aunt Redd.

wonderland is the kind of place where the final battle is more like the fight of two wizards. where the most mundane of things a cat can become the most fearsome beast. and were anything can be more than meets the eye. the looking glass wars one of the most imitative fantasies cross reality books i have read in a long time.

"Feed" reviw

what an interesting look at the future and the consumer in all of us.

the book takes place far enough in the future we have started to colonize other planets in our solar system, and to the point we have begun to melding mind and machine. in this time every one is wired much like teenagers are now with cell phones, but for these kids they have the feed. the feed is a direct connection from there minds to every thing the Internet and cell phones can do.

that is not the only ting that has changed in this time. they also have gotten to the point the most of there lives are controlled by big business. any thing from constant advertisements and fashion alerts, down to the school(owned by big business) teaching them how to become better consumers.

they have gotten to the point no one needs to learn because they have the feed at there minds reach. they can grab any peace of information they need, so of course higher education has become a thing of the past. now people are nothing but a small cog in the larger economy that must drive forward or crash.

so because of the feed adults are more like teenagers, saying and doing things that are just not part of being a good adult. the world it self has begun to spiral out of control. people live in their little bubble homes with, the mall, work, and school the only other places they see. to see out side their bubbles is to see a world where natural life has been pushed out for progress. where food of all kinds meat included is grown from the ground.

where roaches rule all the dark spaces. imagine 100 of millions of roaches, all scurrying between the dark places between bubbles. imagine shining a flood light below to see the tops of the bubbles moving like a black sea of roaches. not only has nature adapted but much of it has changed to fit its new soundings, but there are some things that we can do to nature that it can not stop, or adapt to.

by the end of the book it becomes obvious that many people are going to die as there bodies begin to be destroyed around them. can this death be the only future, no of course not, but that is what this book is for. to tell us some times we have to open our eye beyond what we are fed through some feed, to see what is real. to see things as they are and not by what others are telling us they should be going on, whether it be good or bad we are fed.

cousin on TV

ksl.com - High-speed chase ...

so i just found out today that my cousin jenny was being her brave self. so some time today or the last few days there was some dweeb decided he wanted a video game joy ride on his bullet bike. he raced his way up i-15 and while he was chased he decide to take it to surface streets, where his luck caught up with him. he skied to a halt and wedged his bike under my cousin and her husbands' SUV.

almost immediately the SUV and bike caught on fire, my cousin afraid for her life and her children hoped out and began to ferry children from the car to the side of the road. ya, at that moment i knew i was related by blood to her. i have felt the same thing.

once in high school a friend of mine decided to take a ride on her spindly boyfriend's back. when he lost his balance she fell over the chairs of the auditorium, and got her foot stuck in the folding auditorium seat. i knew that she was better then she looked laying on the ground but then i saw her trapped ankle. her leg making it impossible to get it free unless we could lift her up. i immediately said, 'pick her up,' but someone else said 'don't move her'. i knew that the longer she sat there the more damage would happen to her trapped ankle.

when no one moved i climbed over the chair to help her and so did another friend of ours. we lifted her up enough to have one other friend easy her ankle out of its trapped place. then we eased her back to the ground. of course for some reason the thought of some one saying not to move her when it was obvious to me that she was continuing to be hurt made me furious.

all i could think was i wanted to be away from that person and i was going to be late for class, yea i was not thinking clearly. but i knew there was enough other people that she would be fine and i was only end up getting in the way.

i only found out later she had assumed the one that had saved her was her boy friend, and i keep thinking he was the one that said not to move her. now that i think of it i am mad that she gave him credit for what i did, but i knew that after getting her out that she was going to be fine. i was not so sure about my anger. i think if i had stayed i might have ended up getting suspended for almost ripping a guy apart.

i rarely get that mad, but when i do i know i am not a person to be around. i am likely to do almost anything, i think that is the reason i slunk off to class. i knew if i stayed around it was not going to help my friend any more than she was and only make things worse because my anger would show.

vegan and the longer way of life.

have you been bombarded by the facts that people who have been on vegetarian dies all there life are living longer? i know i have, and not only because of where i work, because there are many of those kinds of high minded people. i hear it on the news. read it on any web site out there on eating healthy to lay off the meat.

i know i for one could not. my body has needs such i have to have red meat (preferably beef) once a week. so i guess that means that i will die young and of an heart attack, at least that is what medical science says. but the more i read on things like this and on vegan eating habits i do not believe that is the case.

for a vegan they have to watch every thing they eat, to make sure no animals are harmed in the processing of the food. so not only do they not get the greasy, fatty foods the rest of us do, but in many cases i bet they have to prepare all there own food because there is no fast and pre-made food for them to follow there vegan diet. making there food more pure, ie. less preservatives.

then you must also take into account the kinds of people that would take on this kind of diet. i would be willing to bet most are some kind of activist. (i know i have never met any one that was a vegetarian that did not have something else they were out spoken about.) i do not see any activists sitting on there butts watching tv and yelling at the tv. they, activists, tend not not sit they tend to get up and do something about it. they are motivated people that chase there goals.

so medical science is telling every one that they need to eat healthy, well the vegans have that down, they watch every thing they eat and tend to be educated on what they need to eat to live that life style. medical science tell us we need to get up and move around, most people would argue they do, but getting in a car and going across town is not the same as getting up and walking around the block, or walking down to the store. well the vegans are doing this too, they are activist so they get out and do something about there goals/beliefs making there lives a go go go kind of life style.

so i guess in that case we all need to go out and become vegans and activist. i say NO, we do not need to believe the same things nether do we need to force others to our beliefs. what we need to do is learn what is good for our body's and do it. this includes what we need to do (the dreaded word 'exercise') and what to eat (the other dreaded word 'diet'). now exercise is nothing more than going for a walk once ever other day,and trying to go just one extra mile while out there. and diet is nothing more than knowing what is bad for you and taking time and responsibility to say no every few times you are temped.

admittedly if you do it every time it is not as hard but you want to know a trick i have learned. work on one thing at a time. for 3 to 4 week try as best you can not to eat that large desert, eat half of it. try cooking for your self (removing all those extra preservative) even if your cooking is nothing more than a hamburger, a baked potato and some veggie to round out your diet. cooking for one self is one of the easy things you can do to make sure you know what is in your diet.

so in closing it is not whether you eat meat or not that can give you a long life it is how you treat your body and take care of it. just by trying one change in your life, not eating tell you are full, eating tell you are almost full, that can start you on your way to a more healthy life. so get out there and start the first step.
