what a interesting spin off of the 'Alice in Wonderland' stories. this book take the idea that 'Alice in Wonderland' is a story that was written off of a little girl's past. where she looses all control in here life and ends up assuming a new life in the end her friends come through to pull her back to the world she belongs to. to fight the nightmare that is Redd.
the world of wonder land is a place where all the dreams and imagination of the multverse come from. this is the kind of place where imagination rules the world, and not just figuratively but literally. in wonderland the power to think up things and want things to happen will simply make them be.
so of course in this world the most powerful person is going to be the most imaginative. she is the Genevieve, the queen of harts, and Alice's mother. through some strange and unfortunate circumstances Redd, Alice's aunt attacks wanting the throne of wonderland for her self. because of some altercations in Redd's and the Genevieve's pasts, Redd got banished to mount isolation in the chess board desert.
for all of these years Redd's anger and hate has been building. for this one moment to kill her sister and take the throne. Alice only escapes with the help of her mother moments before she is killed and the Hatter Madigan that got her to the pool of tears where she escaped into our world.
while she was a child she inspired the story of 'Alice in wonderland' we all know, and after she had given up all hope she was found by the Hatter at last, saved once again, and taken back to wonder land. where she still had the insurmountable task of discovering all she had forgotten from her past. all the while she is chased by her aunt Redd.
wonderland is the kind of place where the final battle is more like the fight of two wizards. where the most mundane of things a cat can become the most fearsome beast. and were anything can be more than meets the eye. the looking glass wars one of the most imitative fantasies cross reality books i have read in a long time.
